Council commends Zambo wrestling, taekwondo teams PDF Print E-mail

The City Council has commended the Zamboanga wrestling and taekwondo contingents for reaping 41 medals in two championships last July.

The Council Committee on Youth and Sports chaired by Councilor Elbert “Bong” Atilano said that eight athletes from the Zamboanga city Wrestling Team participated in the 4th Women’s Mixed Martial Arts Championship from July 24 to 26 at the Harrison Plaza in Manila.

The Taekwondo team, meanwhile, participated in the World Taekwondo Culture Exposition ’17 held in Jeunju City, South Korea from July 13 to 17 and bagged a total of 33 medals.

The tournament was participated in by 24 countries with over 1,300 participants with Zamboangueño athletes winning a total of 16 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze medals.

The seventeen (17) Taekwondo athletes who participated in the competition are the following:  Namshur Pingli, Micah Angelica Torres, Obama Gandhi Loong, Jaime Canayon, Titina Loong, Brandon Recinto, Angelmina Loong, Carla Jasmine Villanueva,  Elizabeth Talisha Chan, Don Mustapha Loong II, Algene Marhee Amiruddin, Michael Torres, Cesar Oliver Basilio, Saeed Faris Loong, Aaron Josh Lee, Paolo Miguel Parteilan and Nathali Chan.

“This is another honor and glory for the Zamboangueño taekwondo and wrestling teams as they went home with medals,” said Atilano.

Meanwhile, another Zamboangueño, Cesar Oliver Basilio won a gold medal in the 2017 Chosen Presidential International Pool she Taekwondo Championship held in Chosen University, Gwangju, South Korea last July 12.  (Monch Follosco)
