In a confounding series of moves, the City Council has ordered the closure of fast food outlet Jollibee La Purisima, withdrew the resolution the following week, then approved another resolution endorsing the said closure order of the City Legal Office to the Mayor.

The resolutions were all meant to put into effect a previous recommendation by the City Legal Office to effect a closure order of the Jollibee La Purisima store occupying a portion of the Puericulture compound.

The store is said to be violating a Presidential Proclamation on the use of the Puericulture property.

Councilor Rudy Lim said that the withdrawal of the first resolution to order the closure of the establishment was made after councilors realized that it is beyond their powers to implement the closure.

“This is not our function.  They are not supposed to direct Agbulos  but to direct the Mayor to follow the recommendation of the City Legal Office,”  Lim explained.

Lim was reportedly not among the group of councilors who initially voted for the resolution to direct City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos to effect the closure order on Jollibee.

The resolution was withdrawn during last Tuesday’s regular session.

In its place, the City Council approved another resolution to endorse the recommendation of the City Legal Officer to close the establishment and for the Mayor to implement the closure order of the establshment.

During the city hall’s press briefing last Monday,  City Legal Officer Atty Jesus Carbon said that they are also waiting for Zamboanga Puericulture President Dr Rodel Agbulos to enforce the city government order for Freemont Foods’ Jollibee outlet to vacate the property.  (Liza Jocson)
