The Lamitan city government  spearheaded the conduct of an anti-terrorism drill last Wednesday to prepare the city’s residents against possible terrorist attacks and related man-made disasters.

The activity is part of a 2-day Summit on Anti Terrorism and Illegal Drugs at the Datu Rizal Center yesterday.

Participants to the drill, mostly students, readily played out a scenario involving an attack of terrorists at the Mindanao Autonomous College Foundation Inc, the site of the drill.

Policemen and other agencies of government including responders from the private sector played out their roles as part of the drill.

Lamitan city Mayor Rose Furigay expressed gratitude to the  participants for their involvement in the drill.

Furigay said that the Anti-Terrorism drill is a requirement for every local government unit in order to raise awareness and educate the people on the effects of man made and natural calamities.

The activity is required and mandated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG,) according to Furigay.

She said that that this is the first time that an anti-terrorism drill is held in the city although drills for other calamities and natural disasters are also being conducted.  (Allen Abastillas)
