DOST offering HS, college scholarships Print

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is now offering three categories of scholarships for high school and college students in region-9.

Josephine Notay, Center Manager for Scholarship, identified the three scholarships as the following: the Philippine Science High School scholarship, the 2018 Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarship and the 2017 Junior Level Science Scholarship for third year college students.

To be eligible for the Philippine Science High School scholarship, the candidate must be a grade 6 pupil who must have a final grade of 85%, a Filipino citizen with no pending nor approved application as immigrant to any foreign country, born on or after August 1, 2003, have a satisfactory character rating, has not taken the exam previously, and in good health.

A Candidate to the 2018 Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarship must be a graduate of Senior High School grade 12, and pay a testing fee of P200 for merit scholar applicants.

Eligible applicants to the 2017 Junior Level Science scholarships are third year college students.

According to Nohay, applicants to the 2017 Junior Level Science Scholarships and 2018 Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarship must choose from priority courses such as Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Agribusiness Management, Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Technology, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Applied Statistics, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Ceramics Engineering, Chemistry with Applied Computer Systems, Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Environmental Science, Fisheries, Food Technology, Forestry, Geology, Geodetic Engineering, Geothermal Engineering, Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Management Engineering Information Technology, Industrial Pharmacy, Information System, Information Technology, Information Technology Systems, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Management, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mathematics, Mathematics Teaching, Mathematics and Science Teaching, Marine Biology, Marine Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Medical Technology, Metallurgical Engineering, Meteorology, Microbiology, Mining Engineering, Moleular Biology and Biotechnology, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Pharmacy, Packaging Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics with Applied Computer Systems, Applied Physics with Materials Science and Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Psychology, Public Health, Science Teaching, Statistics, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Aside from these, successful applicants of the 2017 Junior Level Science Scholarships and 2018 Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarship the scholars must have return of service in the country along his or her field of specialization on a fulltime basis for a minimum period equivalent to the length of scholarship enjoyed.
