The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Regional Office 9 has  distributed a total of 327 hectares land to 210 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) in region 9 from January to June 2017.

Julita A. Ragandang, DAR 9 Regional Director, said that of the 327  hectares, 32 hectares were distributed in Zamboanga del Norte benefiting 23 ARBs, 158 hectares in Zamboanga del Sur  benefiting 117 ARBs, and f137 hectares for Zamboanga Sibugay benefiting 70 ARBs.

These farmer beneficiaries were given land for production of fruits and vegetables.

The office still has a target of 1,160 hectares of land to distribute for region 9 beneficiaires this year.

“This year parang maliit lang ang target pero in terms of the process medyo mabigat. We have problematic land holdings. There are some legal and technical problems before we can finally cover all of these,” Ragandang said.

She said that some of the problems they are encountering includes the following: lost title; intact title but sold to other buyers; and erroneous coverage.

ost of the problematic lands for distribution are private agricultural lands where there is  just compensation to be given to  affected land owners.

The process will entail submitting the documents to Land Bank for the bank to evaluate the completeness of the documents before they can come up with the valuation and payment to owners.

According to the Regional Director, the instruction of DAR Secretary Rafael V. Mariano is to speed up the accomplishments on land distribution, provide support services in terms of projects, and legal resolution of cases.

She assured that the office is doing everything hoping that they can finish the distribution by December this year. (R.G. A A. Go)
