The Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVET) has cleared swallows flying in the town proper as possible Avian flu carriers.

Dr. Arnedo Agbayani, OCVET Chief, Animal Health Services Division. described the swallows as resident birds of Zamboanga and not migratory birds that come from other places.

Agbayani is referring to hundreds of birds which are normally seen perched on cable wires or high places in the town proper every afternoon.

“They are already part of Zamboanga.  They are not migratory birds,” said Agbayani, adding “ El sucio lang maka miedo.”

Agbayani assured residents that the Office of the City Veterinarian is conducting activities to prevent the possible entry of Avian Flu.

He said that the Bureau of Animal Industry’s Veterinary Quarantine Services Division has assigned personnel to airports, seaports and bus terminals to check all poultry products being shipped in or shipped out from the region.  (Liza Jocson)
