The Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) met on Tuesday (August 15) here to discuss plans for the upcoming Children’s Month to be held in November.

This year’s theme is “Bata, Iligtas sa Droga!”, which emphasizes the need for strengthened advocacy for children against illegal drugs.

Among the activities identified for November’s celebrations are an orientation of children’s rights to children in public schools, media campaign and the Children’s Congress which is the culmination of the entire month’s activities. During the Congress, children will be showcasing talents and skills in line with the theme.

By virtue of Presidential Proclamation 267 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos in 1993, all local government units, civil society groups and other sectors are enjoined to participate and conduct Children’s Month activities for the month of October. This was changed in recent times during the time of former President Benigno S. Aquino III, declaring the month of November as Children’s Month, also in commemoration of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) signed by the Philippines in November 20, 1989.
