Operatives from the Zamboanga City Police Office spread in 11 police stations all over 98 barangays of the city last week conducted 25 operations against illegal drugs, which resulted in the arrest of 33 suspects.

Insp. Edwin Duco, spokesperson of the ZCPO, reported during the press briefing in City Hall Wednesday that the series of Oplan: Double Barrel Reloaded also resulted in the confiscation of 92 sachets of shabu with a street value of P204,700.

However, he lamented that one suspect was killed in the operation but said the incident was far beyond compare to the anti-drugs operations in Caloocan City where 24 suspects killed in 24 hours.

Insp. Duco likewise reported that 15 search warrants were served, two of which yielded negative, but 12 suspects were arrested and 46 sachets of shabu confiscated. A 138-revolver and a cal. 45 pistol were seized as well.

The police operatives also recovered 21 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, a main component of explosives and other bomb materials such as nine improvised explosive device (IED) and blasting caps in SitioBuguk, Kasanyangan last Aug. 21. At least six persons were arrested.

The day, Aug. 22, the police swooped down on the same place for a follow up operation that resulted in the recovery of one boat loaded with IED blasting caps, seven bottled of ammonium nitrate and 90kg of the explosive powder.-(Vic Larato/PR)
