It’s official, Friday, September 1, is declared a regular holiday in the whole country in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice pursuant to Proclamation 297.

President Rodrigo Duterte issued the proclamation Tuesday, August 29 citing the final declaration of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

The celebration of Eid’l Adha as a regular holiday is provided for in Republic Act 9849.

According to the Wikipedia, Eid’l Adha is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year and considered the holier of the two. The day honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, as an act of obedience to God’s command.  (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
