Zamboanga City’s old public market downtown is all set to undergo a total rehabilitation and improvement with a budget allocation of more or less P40 million.

Engr. Chris Navarro, officer-in-charge of the City Engineer’s Office, said practically all market structures (Bldg. A to G) will be repaired and improved.

He said the buildings will have a new appearance to allow more ventilation and elevation. Stalls with comfort rooms will also be constructed along the PPA Fence.

Construction works will include removal and replacement of roofing sheets and accessories, trusses and grits, retrofitting and restoration of columns, removal and replacement of tiles at counter tables, restoration of concrete floor slab and curbs.

Other works include installation of PVC downspouts and catch basins, replacements of all drainage covers, manhole covers and adjacent road drainage.

City Administrator Marie Angelique C. Go earlier explained that all these repairs and improvements are being introduced to all economic enterprises of the city government, from markets to parks and gardens.

Also to undergo rehabilitation and improvement are the Sta. Cruz Commercial Complex, the slaughterhouse in San Roque and Paseo del Mar.-(Vic Larato/PR)
