Celso: Zambo airport should be improved pending transfer Print

House Committee on Public Works and Highways chairman, Congressman Celso L.Lobregat is supportive of the present efforts of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in improving the status of the Zamboanga City airport pending its proposed transfer to Barangay Mercedes.

Lobregat said that although there are plans to transfer the airport, “We cannot abandon and allow the present airport to be deteriorated because we are catering to thousands of passengers daily and they have to be safe and comfortable.”

The solon said that since the feasibility study is ongoing and there are plans in place, it will still take more than six to ten years to realize the transfer.

Recall,Lobregat recently invited DOTr and Aviation officials to the city to inspect the status of the local airport and to ensure that sufficient funds are being provided for its maintenance and ongoing rehabilitation projects.

In relation to this, Lobregat also filed House Resolution No. 1225on August 23,2017.

HR 1225 is a resolution urging the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to endorse to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) the proposed transfer of the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) and for NEDA to include it in the priority project listing of the national government and the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) in 2017- 2022.
