Land Transportation Office (LTO)-IX Director Aminola P. Abaton said, LTO may recognize a 10-year validity to holders of the newly issued 5-years driver’s license, if said license holder have not committed any road or traffic violation during the prescribed time, as this is part of the coverage of Republic Act 4136 also known as the LTO and Traffic Code of the Philippines and other related traffic laws.

Abaton informed that any driver who processed a 5-year validity driver’s license and who did not commit any road or traffic violation during said period, the driver will enjoy a 10-year validity of his license.

“This is also to recognize the good faith and behavior of motorists for their cooperation to our road and traffic laws. So, even though one has been issued the new 5-year valid driver’s license, as a bonus of his or her good disposition in driving; he or she may enjoy another 5 years of valid driver’s license”. Abaton said.

Abaton however clarified that drivers who will enjoy the 10-year validity license will still have to pay the regular processing fees, documentation and renewal fees so that the holder’s name will be included in the data bank under the 10-year valid license holder.

“Hindi po libre ang processing at documentation fees ng 10-years validity period ng bonus na licensiya. Maganda ang 10-years period validity kasi just imagine, matagal ka maka-renew uli ng licensiya mo. Malaking tipid ito sa ating maga drivers at motorists”, Abaton pointed-out. (Allen Abastillas)
