Two old men died after they were trapped inside their respective burning houses during a conflagration in Kasalamatan Drive, Kasanyangan on Friday before midnight.

The fatalities were identified as Lakibul Musad, 75 and Porman Janalde, 63, who failed to go out of their houses.

Their bodies were retrieved by authorities led by Supt. Nonito Asdai, chief of Tetuan Police Station shortly after 1:00 in the morning.

Over 100 houses were reportedly gutted down by fire based on the initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Initial police investigation showed that the fire started from an abandoned house located in the middle portion of the area at past 11:00 in the evening.

Residents said that most of them were already sleeping when their neighbors started screaming that there was a fire.

Affected families ran out of their houses to save their lives and some valuables.

Asdai said that the two cadavers were found outside their respective houses showing that they failed to leave the place after they were trapped.

Hundred families were sent to Don Gems Elementary School in Sta. Catalina for temporary shelter.

The local government immediately gave assistance to the victims.

Asdai, the president of the Eastern Eagle Club, initiated a feeding activity for the affected families yesterday morning. (Dan Toribio)
