The Senate Committee on Public Works chaired by Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Paquiao approved 28 House public works measures referred to the House Committee on Public Works chaired by Congressman Celso Lobregat, District 1, Zamboanga City.

Lobregat said that the twenty-eight (28) House Bills consist of (16) Naming/Renaming of Roads and Bridges, (11) District Engineering bills and (1) Road Conversion bill which were already approved in the House of Representatives and transmitted to the Senate.

Twenty one (21) Congresspersons led by Chairman Celso Lobregat were present in the Senate hearing yesterday which was presided by Senator Manny Pacquiao, which Senator MigzZubiri moved for the approval of the 28 House Bills.

Lobregat said that these measures are important in order to maximize the delivery of infrastructure projects to the constituents of the entire country.

Earlier, Members of the House committee on appropriations expressed their support for the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for 2018 during the hearing on the agency’s budget for next year amounting to P643.25 billion, which is 38 percent more than this year’s budget of P467.66 billion.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar explained to the committee chaired by Rep. Karlo Alexie Nograles (1st District, Davao City) and vice-chaired by Congressman Lobregat that the bulk of the agency’s 2018 budget, which is P605.57 billion, will go to capital outlay while the remaining amount will be spent for operating expenditures and non-infrastructure expenses. – Dexter Yap/PR
