The National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Local Government will turn over 433 houses on stilts to beneficiaries in Vale Vista Phase III in Kasanyangan on Thursday, September 7 as part of the activities commemorating the 2013 siege.

Mayor Beng Climaco together with NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Chair Eduardo del Rosario will spearhead the turnover rites set to be held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan starting at 8am.

The beneficiaries are mostly badjao temporarily residing in the different transitory sites and home-based and compose the last batch of occupants to Vale Vista phase III which has a total of 866 housing slots. The first batch of 433 beneficiaries was transferred last August 14.

Based on records from the City Housing and Land Management Division (HLMD), only 29% of the total families occupying the transitory sites will be left behind after the turnover on Thursday. The 29% is equivalent to 1,800 families.

The Vale Vista III permanent site covers 77,458 square meters with 866 housing units at a total cost of P172.569 million. The project is undertaken by the Gulf Canary Construction and Development and under the supervision of the NHA.

Other activities have also been set to fittingly commemorate the heroism of the soldiers, policemen and civilians who offered their lives to liberate Zamboanga City from the aggressors of the 2013 siege. (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
