Mayor Beng Climaco on Wednesday recalled her earlier order mandating a two-way traffic at Baliwasan Seaside, thereby reverting back to one-way experimental traffic scheme on said route going to the west coast.

This, after the Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed Resolution 1194, earnestly requesting the chief executive to recall EO 287 directing the two-way traffic at Baliwasan Seaside from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. from junction Suterville Road, Lower Calarian to junction Baliwasan Chico-Seaside.

Likewise, the local legislature urged the mayor to restudy the same scheme in address the present traffic situation in the area, and in the meantime not to allow entry of vehicles from Baliwasan Seaside towards Campo Islam leading out to Suterville.

Climaco responded to the SP resolution by issuing EO 293, recalling EO 287 in a bid to decongest vehicular traffic on the routes leading to the city’s west coast areas during peak hours.

Instead, she ordered that a one-way traffic scheme be adopted (in consonance with Section 2(6) of EO 250 “An Act Directing the Execution of an Experimental Traffic Scheme to Decongest Traffic at the City’s Central Business District in the City of Zamboanga” commencing from Taupan Road (Suterville Rd) then left to Raja Muda Mandi Road (Baliwasan Seaside) until the junction of Baliwasan Climaco.

This time, however, the one-way traffic scheme is enforced from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Fridays including holidays.-(Vic Larato/PR)
