Local government employees stepped up to donate blood during a bloodletting activity spearheaded by the City Government Friday morning, September 8.

Some 33 units of blood from donors were collected during the half-day activity supervised and overseen by personnel from the Philippine National Red Cross at City Hall.

Mayor Beng Climaco recognized the heroism of blood donors, and the importance of blood and blood donation to saving lives.

Last month, the City Blood Council, in partnership with the Rotary Club formally recognized the top 10 barangays with the most number of blood donation activities in line with the City’s blood support services program.

The bloodletting initiative was held in observance of the feast day of Mama Mary, and in part, also serves as one of the activities leading up to the commemorative program of the siege 2013 slated Saturday, September 9.

The commemorative program will have simple ceremonies honouring the memories of victims and heroes of the siege, and a wreath-laying activity at 4:30 PM at Marker for the Heroes in Rizal Street.

This will be followed by the Concert for Valor at City Hall grounds.  (Jasmine Mohammadsali/PR)
