The Zamboanga City Integrated Port Services Incorporated (ZCIPSI) has revealed that they will be asking the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for an increase in the terminal fee for the Port of Zamboanga Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) to better serve the passengers using the PTB.

Samuel Simon, ZCIPSI President, said in an interview that from P11.00, they are asking to increase the terminal fee to P25.00.

According to Simon, a public consultation for the terminal fee increase will be done by October at the PPA to be participated by the riding public, PPA, and public officials.

During the consultation, ZCIPSI will present their expenses and justification why they are asking for the increase. After the public consultation, if it will be approved by the PPA, the rate hike will be published and implemented.

“There is a need for the increase because of the continuing need to upgrade the services and maintenance of the PTB,” Simon said.

He said that in Mindanao ports such as Ozamiz, Cagayan De Oro, and Dapitan, the terminal fee is at P25.00.

They are eyeing that by November or December this year, the increase will be implemented.

The proceeds of the said increase will be used for the operating cost of the PTB and for the improvement and maintenance of the facility.

ZCIPSI is spending millions for the maintenance of the PTB to include payments for light, water, and salary of the employees.

PTB is a separate unit of ZCIPSI manned by 50 to 60 personnel. The PTB can accommodate some 3,000 passengers coming in and out of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi Tawi, and Manila. (R.G. A A. Go)
