IED explodes in Mampang Print

An improvised dynamite with low detonation exploded outside a residential house in Sitio Kapok, Mampang last Monday night.

Police said the explosion took place outside the fence of Mubin Hanapi y Tubilla, 63, a known quack doctor in the community at around 2 a.m.

Initial investigation showed that Hanapi and his family were sleeping inside their house when they heard soft explosion coming from outside their fence.

During a post blast investigation, bomb experts found out that the explosive was mixed with ammonium nitrate, with pieces of cut iron and nails placed inside an empty bottle.

Police said that there was no casualty during the incident.

Police said that prior to the incident, Hanapi charged P1,700 from one of his patients but afterwards failed to cure him. Hanapi was then confronted by his patient who demanded for the refund of the money.

But accordingly, Hanapi told his patient that he can only return P1,000 as the P700 was already spent to buy materials for his medication.

Meanwhile around 9:49 p.m. Monday, a fragmentation grenade was recovered in Suaib Drive, Purok 7, in Mampang.

Police identified the explosive as a PRB 423 grenade which was recovered near the outpost of Masa Masid.

Authorities believed that unidentified men intentionally planted the grenade near the outpost of the Civilian Volunteers Organization.

The grenade was retrieved by Bomb experts and was brought to their office for proper disposition. – Dan Toribio
