The City Permits and Licensing Office has revealed that they can only accommodate 60 to 70 traveling merchants for the upcoming Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2017 because of limited space at the R. T. Lim Boulevard due to ongoing rehabilitation works.

Benjie Barredo, City Permits and Licensing Division chief said in an interview that for this year only 60 to 70 stalls will be constructed by the City Engineer’s Office starting this week.

The traveling merchants will start selling their products from September 30 to October 31 at their designated area at R.T. Lim Boulevard. The area cannot be fully utilized as a big portion of the boulevard is undegoung rehabilitation.

According to Barredo, as of now there are already 100 applicants and his office will only select not more than 70. The accredited travelling merchant will have to pay the city less than P10,000 for the special permit which include payment for electricity, construction of the booth, garbage fee, and business tax.

He said that this year, the office will contact these merchants personally through text and call to avoid middle men or fixers. Priority shall be given to those who came to the office personally submit application.

Traveling merchants came from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao bringing along with them their goods such as plants, T-Shirts, accessories, souvenirs, and especially the products coming from their respective hometowns.

The Permits and Licensing chief also said that for these merchants there are guidelines that should be strictly complied such cleanliness and sanitation.

“Our rules and regulations should be followed as we made it clear to them. Those who will  not follow will be meted with sanctions,” Barredo emphasized.

He said the travelling merchants bring income to the city

Baredo also said that the presence of out-of-town merchants also serves as one of the attractions and highlights of the Hermosa Festival.

The celebration of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is in honor of the city’s patron saint Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar. It is the biggest fiesta and is being celebrated in the entire Zamboanga City. (R.G. A A. Go)
