DPWH starts construction of P22M city weightlifting training center Print

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has now started the construction of the city’s weightlifting training center located inside the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan, this city.

DPWH Zamboanga City District Engineer Cholie Roble said in an interview that they are closely coordinating with the contractor  to ensure the completion of the project as scheduled.

According to Engr. Roble, the project has not started immediately because they found out that site where the building should be erected was already concreted and also the sports complex then was also being rehabilitated. The problem was already resolved and adjusted to fit the building.

She said that site development has started to prepare for the  foundation of the building.

The weightlifting training center amounting to P22 million was funded under the local infrastructure program initiated by District I Congressman Celso Lobregat though the DPWH.

FJ construction, a local contractor is the one constructing the building. The center is a two- storey edifice which will have the athletes quarters, shower room, training center, and dressing room.

Weightlifting competitions can also be conducted at the training center.

“This is a very visible project at hinihingi ng weightlifting kaya dapat it should be finished on time,” Roble said.

There are more than 100 weightlifters here in the city who will benefit from the training center. (R.G. A A. Go)
