Councilor Mel Sadain yesterday expressed gratitude to non-Muslims’ show of support in the observance of the holy month of Ramadan.

Sadain who was one of the guest of honors during the Iftar (breaking of the fast) held last night at the Marcian Garden Hotel also thanked Mayor Celso Lobregat for coming up with the early release of a memorandum circular reminding all government department heads of the flexible time allowing Muslim employees who are observing the fast to leave their office at 3 or 3:30 p.m.

“This is a concrete manifestation of tolerance and recognition of what we Muslims and Non-Muslims alike, wanted to happen in our city in particular and the society in general that is oneness and collaboration towards the attainment of peace in our beloved city. Iftar where folowers of different religious beliefs are gathered. Friendship and companionship of two individuals professing different faith is also a form of interreligious dialogue and tolerance,” Sadain said.

The councilor said dialogue and tolerance are two combinations for the attainment of peace.

Sadain observed there was never an instance where Muslims and Christians in this city have quarreled due to religious beliefs.

He stressed the need for interfaith dialogue as a means of breaking barriers towards a cooperative and and positive interactions between people of different religious beliefs with the aim of deriving a common ground through a concentration of similarities between faiths and understanding of values. — NS
