Mayor Beng Climaco commended yesterday the 141 police non-commissioned officers on their promotion to the next higher rank even as she challenged them to commit themselves to ensuring the safety of their area of jurisdiction (AOR), Zamboanga City.

“We must ensure that there will not be any lawlessness in your AOR. We must ensure that we will not allow criminals to conduct criminal activities in our AOR, not during your watch. We must not allow terrorists to conduct terroristic activities in your AOR,” Climaco declared in her message at the mass oath taking and donning of ranks of the newly promoted police officers.

The mayor said as the police do their job with dedication, the city government is one with and supportive of them by providing them the necessary logistics to carry out their missive to serve and protect Zamboanga City.

She said the new building of the Zamboanga City Police Office constructed by the city government in the amount of P36 million is the testimony of the city’s support and love for the local police force.

In addition, she said the city government has allocated this year P42.78 million for maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) of the police, a capital outlay of P36.38 million, infrastructure of P9.6 million (P26 million in 2016), land acquisition of P30 million for he transfer of two police stations and a continuing appropriation of P80.75 million for a total P198,816,420.13.

“This is our contribution to the PNP because we want you all to succeed. We are here to support you,” Climaco assured the police.

But more than anything else, the chief executive stressed that she wants the police to be protected as well every time they go out on operations, the reason why the city government had purchased bullet proof vests, Kevlar helmets, 3 sniper rifles worth P500,000, and ballistic shields.

“These may not be enough but I want in every operation you are protected,” she told the police, even assuring that those promoted were not part of the “cheating” anomaly, and that they are deserving of her and the people’s warmest greetings for their heroism and dedication to duty.-(Vic Larato/PR)
