Relentless in the delivery of social services, the City Government released some P220, 000 as financial assistance for 57 families displaced by recent fire incidents in barangays Sto. Nino and Southcom Village in Calarian.

Mayor Beng Climaco spearheaded the distribution of the financial assistance at the City Hall conference room Wednesday afternoon following assessment and validation conducted by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Some 52 families were displaced by the fire in Sto. Nino last August 21 while 5 families were rendered homeless by the Southcom-Calarian fire last August 6.

Of the total 57 families, 28 were house owners whose houses were totally damaged and 1 partially damaged. 24 were house renters/sharers with totally damaged houses while 1 house renter/sharer with partially damaged house while 3 house boarders had totally damaged houses.

Assistance for the victims range from P5,000 to P1,500 depending on the degree of damaged incurred on their houses, as mandated under a resolution of the City Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).This excludes assistance given to victims who were wounded or to families of victims who perished during the calamity.

The grant of financial assistance is based on the recommendations of the CSWDO, which conducts the assessment and validation of the list of displaced families. (Sheila Covarrubias)
