Kidnappers struck anew in Sulu victimizing two “ukay-ukay” (used clothing) merchants in Patikul last Sunday afternoon.
Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang identified the victims as Ambon Blas, 60, and Perlita Bagay, 25.

Cabangbang said that Blas and Bagay were riding on a Honda Wave motorcycle on their way home in Palar Village, Barangay Ilang, Patikul, Sulu when gunmen blocked their path. at Sitio Baunoh near Latih Elementary School around 5:20 p.m.

Witnesses told authorities that Blas and Bagay were seized by the gunmen and brought to an unknown place.

Cabangbang said the gunmen were followers of a certain Basarun Aruk operating in Patikul, Sulu.

Police and military have launched pursuit operations for the possible rescue of the victims and the arrest of the gunmen.

The victims’ relatives have not received yet any word from the kidnappers.

Last month, a business couple was seized by the kidnappers. The husband was released immediately after he was told by the abductors to produce P100,000 ransom for his wife to be freed.

A week later, the woman was freed after husband paid the ransom. — Dan Toribio Jr.
