Two unidentified men riding tandem on a motorcycle shot and killed a senior police officer who was formerly assigned here in the city and in the process also wounded a security guard on duty at  a motorcycle outlet in the downtown area as what residents described as a daring gun attack despite the stringent security measures being implemented by the police and the military in the entire city.

The slain policeman was identified by the police investigators as SPO4 Abdurahman Estino, currently assigned in Siocon Municipal Police Station but was formerly assigned in Zambaonga City Public Safety Company under the Zamboanga City Police Office. While the wounded security guard as Leo Calagok of Anthony Security Agency,  and a resident of Barangay Canelar.

According to the police, the shooting incident occurred past 5 P.M. just outside of a Yamaha Store at Mayor Vitaliano Agan Sr. Avenue in Nuñez Extension, Barangay Camino Nuevo, where Estino was just coming out of the store.

Investigators told reporters that as per initial investigation it appeared that the policeman went to the store purposely to purchase a motorcycle when the motorcycle riding-in-tandem suspects suddenly appeared and shot the cop. Estino sustained several gunshot wounds while the security guard on duty only sustained one bullet wound.

They were taken to a private hospital but the policeman was declared dead on arrival while the guard was also in serious condition.

The police were able to recover six spent shells of Caliber .45 Pistol from the crime scene.

Investigators are still facing a blank wall as regards to the motive of the incident.

But they assured that they will exert efforts to solve the case. Dan Toribio
