Mayor Beng Climaco and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources recently turned over a community fish landing center (CFLC) to fisherfolks in barangay Labuan helping ensure quality fish products.

Mayor Climaco expressed confidence that the project would be a great help to Labuan fishermen in improving their income as well as ensuring quality products for the consumption of the public.

She likewise thanked the BFAR-9 headed by Director Isidro Velayo for collaborating with the local government through the City Agriculturist Office under Dr. Diosdado Palacat for the realization of the project.

Aside from the fish landing center, refrigerator units were also turned over to the Labuan United Fisherfolk Association Inc.

Labuan Community Fish Landing Center is one of the four centers that will be established in the city, the 3 others to be established in Tictapul, Mangusu and Arena Blanco.

The establishment of the CFLCs is based on a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed by Mayor Climaco and the BFAR then under Director Ahadulla Sajili.

Based on the MOA, the BFAR will allocate a total of P11.4 million for the 4 centers. The project is in line with BFAR’s program on poverty alleviation.

The CFLCs, costing P2.85million each, follow the “bagsakan center” concept for agriculture products. It will be used for fish and fishery products and at the same time serve as multi-purpose centers where the concerned associations will hold meetings, skills training and data gathering activities.

Also present during the turnover ceremony recently were members of the City Council, Labuan barangay council led by Chairman Ronald Maravilla, Labuan Fisherfolk association officials led by Adolfo Mahari and City Agriculturist office personnel among others. (Sheila Covarrubias)
