Police and CAFGU apprehend five fishermen for illegal fishing Print

Five fishermen who were engaged in illegal fishing were arrested by men of the Culianan Police Station, barangay officials and CAFGU members during a seaborne patrol off Manalipa, in Sacol Island last Monday afternoon.

Police identified those arrested as Roger Refugion y Timoño, 45, married of Miramar Sinunuc; Elmer Guadalupe y Fernandez, 37, married of Ayala; John Wayne Emit y Maasin, 41, married of La Paz; Kenneth Rodriguez y Emit, 15 of Tulungatung and Crispin Enog y Booc, 39, married of Ayala.

Police investigators have confiscated their equipment used in illegal fishing which consist one compressor and two diesel engines, one compressor pump and two air tanks.

The authorities also apprehended their motorized pumpboat.

Aside from violating the City Odinance 2002-89, fishermen also failed to present papers of their pumpboat during the investigation.

Police said that before the operation was made, small time fishermen in the said coastal areas were complaining on the presence of the illegal fishermen.

Under the law, fishing boats and similar water crafts are prohibited in fishing within the 15-km radius of the municipal waters since the these areas are intended only for small-scale or ordinary fishermen.

Authorities have readied charges against those arrested illegal fishing. – Dan Toribio
