Two killed including a barangay chair and two others wounded in gun attack in Salug PDF Print E-mail

A barangay chairman in Salug, Zamboanga del Norte and his companion was killed while two others were wounded in a gun attack in barangay Baybay, Liloy, in the said province last Monday afternoon.

The slain punong barangay was identified as Philip Dagurayan Malon, barangay chairman of Mucas, Salug, and the other one killed as and Edgar Vincent Lagare, 27, of barangay Liguac, same municipality.

While the others wounded were named as Ava Lagare Vega, 35, married and Arl Acas, 25, both of Salug municipality.

Initial police investigation showed that Malon with his three companions visited the ongoing construction of Marjhon Commercial Building owned by Marjhon Bihag, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Liloy, in barangay Babay at around 5:10 p.m.  While thereat, they proceeded to their rented stall to meet a certain Marichu Acas, (rentee), and after a couple of minutes later, four men onboard three XRM motorcycles arrived and stopped in front of them. Without provocation the back riders who were armed with long firearms alighted and suddenly peppered them with automatic gunfire.

Malon tried to run but he was chased and shot by the gunmen.

The suspects sped away on board their motorcycles after the incident.

The four victims were rushed to the hospital but Malon and Edgar were declared dead on arrival while the two others who were seriously wounded are now confined for further treatment.

Policemen recovered spent shells of M-16 Armalite Rifles at the crime scene. – Dan Toribio
