The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival will open to music, cheers, and colors as it officially kicks off on Sunday, October 1, with the Hermosa Opening Salvo.

Thousands of participants from the local and national government, academe, private and business sectors, and civil society organizations are expected to take part in the opening ceremonies which will begin with a parade from Tetuan Central School to the Zamboanga City Coliseum at 2 PM.

Several presentations have been lined up to mark the opening program at the City Coliseum, including the participation of special celebrity performer Daryl Ong of the Voice of the Philippines, Season 2.

Also coinciding with the Hermosa Opening Salvo are the Inter-Barangay Bandoreal Competition, and the Pink October Walk.

The Bandoreal is a traditional practice of celebrating barangay fiestas with participants acting out as characters from the rich and distinct Filipino folklore while performing their stories in the streets.

Meanwhile, the Pink October Walk is part of the nationwide observance of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD), and the Local Council of Women, the Pink October Walk aims to promote public awareness about breast cancer, and to raise funds for the benefit of the oncology/cancer center of the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).
