The commander of the Task Force Zamboanga, Col. Leonel Nicolas has disclosed that there is no imminent threat in Zamboanga City especially now that the city has kicked off its celebration of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2017.

Nicolas stressed during a press conference that his basis for saying such is the information reaching them from intelligence reports and talks with the different commander from the island province.

“There is no imminent threat in Zamboanga…the threat is there but it’s not imminent it’s not about to happen. Right now, the reason why I said no imminent threat is with our coordination with the island provinces commanders Joint Task Force Basilan, Sulu, and Sampelan accordingly they did not monitor any imminent threat coming in Zamboanga City,” Nicolas said.

However, he assured that the police and the military will not lower their guards and continue their coordination and monitoring in the island provinces so that they can anticipate in case there will be reports or information of threat coming from these islands.

Meanwhile, he also assured that security measures are in place for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival especially for the residents and visitors. When it comes to security, they also treat minor and major fiesta events equally.

He also revealed that they did not have any troop augmentation but they rationalize their forces. “There was no troop augmentation and there was no deduction of our forces but we realign them according to the event how to sooth the situation in the different events.”

The Task Force Zamboanga commander is also appealing to the public to report to them in case they have any information which can help the security sector.

“I’m appealing to the people to help us…consider helping us in providing information maybe they have information which we do not know in that way we can share the responsibility of guarding Zamboanga City so all of us will be safe and protected,” Nicolas said. (R.G. A A. Go)
