At least nine policemen from the Police Regional Office – 9 (PRO-9) in Zamboanga Peninsula were dismissed from police service while 12 other policemen are still facing administrative charges before the Office of Regional Internal Affairs Service - 9 (RIAS-9).

Supt.Ferjen Torred,  PRO-9 Regional Investigation Division chief, said that the nine policemen were dismissed from service  after they were found to be using or involved in the illegal trade of  drugs.

Torred said that  all policemen that were dismissed from service  were Police Officer 1 or PO1 and were assigned in the different police stations in the region.

According to Torred  12 other policemen whose rank ranging from  PO1 to  Senior Police Officer 2 or SPO2 are  facing  rigid investigation before  the RIAS-9 office.

Adding that the 12  policemen are now  detailed at  the Regional Personnel Accounting Unit and they are still receiving their salaries  corresponding to their  rank.

“We cannot cut off their salaries  because they are still with the  PNP. Their involvement in drug has yet to be proven,” Torred said. (Ely Dumaboc)
