Toying with an explosive proves fatal for three-year old boy PDF Print E-mail

A three-year old boy died while his playmate was seriously injured when an undetermined type of explosive that they were toying exploded  in Purok 11, Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur last Monday afternoon.

Police reports reaching the city identified the fatality as John Javier Vallecer Bonga and the injured victim as Raymund Calayca Maghinay, also three years old.

Regional Information Officer Chief Insp. Helen Galvez told DZT that as per initial investigation it shows that around 3:30 p.m. the two young boys were playing with an unidentified explosive at the house of Genalyn Carpilla Vallecer when the explosion occurred.

Vallercer is the aunt of the injured boy.

Police investigators said that Genalyn was busy making bamboo sticks when she heard the loud explosion more coming from the direction where her nephew and the other boy was playing.

Investigators found out that Bonga struck the explosive on a stone which resulted to its explosion.

Bonga died on the spot while Maghinay was taken to the hospital.

Investigation further disclosed that the two boys found the explosive while playing in the neighborhood and brought it home to toy with it.—Dan Toribio
