CPOC tackles security details, preps for Hermosa Festival Print

Mayor Beng Climaco on Tuesday convened the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) to discuss security details and preparations for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival which kicked off October 1.

Other issues tackled during the meeting were the jailbreak at PS9 and the eventual recapture of the escapees, the validation of the PRRD drug list, congestion at the City Reformatory Center and updates on the proposed transfer of the jail facility to the city-owned property in Salaan and the prevailing peace and order situation in the city among others.

Mayor Climaco said proper coordination of all organizers, security forces and stakeholders will help ensure the peaceful and orderly execution of the different activities lined up for the Hermosa Festival, the highlight of which will be the feast day of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar on October 12.

The mayor has urged all security forces to closely collaborate and to synergize all efforts to curb all threats to security.

On the issue of the escape and subsequent recapture of the 3 detainees at the PS9 (Ayala) detention cell, Acting City Police Director PSSupt. Neri Ignacio said police personnel found to be remiss in their duties have been relieved and appropriate criminal and administrative charges have been filed against the concerned.

On the other hand, the chief executive has asked the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to closely coordinate with other agencies and discreetly validate the list of suspected drug pushers and users as provided by the office of the president.

The meeting was attended by representatives from all law enforcement agencies including the military and all other members of the CPOC. (Sheila Covarrubias)
