The Land Transportation Office (LTO) regional office-9 has announced that the office will soon start the printing of driver’s license card with five-year validity.

Atty. Aminola Abaton, LTO 9 regional director, said in an interview that the machines will be arriving and the printing of drivers license cards will be on by October 23.

He explained that a different machine will be utilized for printing the cards, which came from Germany. The new driver’s license card has a different lay-out, with security features, and biometrics.

Printing will be done at the Zamboanga City licensing center, Ecozone LTO office, and other LTO offices in the city.

For new the driver’s license with five- year validity period payment will be P820.26 while for the renewal, it will cost P652.63. This is advantageous as the public will no longer go to the LTO every three years and the card is durable.

Meanwhile, the office stared issuing the drivers license card with five -year validity last December 2016.

According to Director Abaton, the region has a backlog of more than 30,000 cards while 15,000 comes from Zamboanga City. When the machine arrives these cards will be printed and they are targeting to clear the backlog by December.

Due to this, backlogs non-professional and professional drivers are temporarily issued in paper form of driver’s license as the office is currently waiting for the deployment and production of the new drivers license cards.

He also said that the office might open Saturday and Sundays for the printing so they can clear the backlog. (R.G. A A. Go)
