The ongoing celebration for Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2017 heats up with more spectacular activities scheduled to unfold this weekend.

To usher today’s festivities are series of sporting events (Oct. 7-8) starting via the “Copa de Alcalde Golf Tournament” at the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, the 2nd Sepaktakraw Regional Men and Women competition and the 2017 Open Weightlifting Championships at the UZ Institute of Human Kinetics (IHK) Sports Area in Tetuan.

The 3rd Zamboanga Mountain Ultramarathon kicks off from 1-5 p.m. at Hacienda de Palmeras in Sta. Maria.

The electrifying Zamboanga Cheerdance competition is set to thrill the spectators at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in Tetuan also at 1 p.m.

At 7 p.m., music lovers will get the chance to witness the “Brigada Battle of the Bands” on R.T. Lim Boulevard, where the grilled food fiesta dubbed “Smoke Out” continues to attract huge crowd of diners and promenaders.

Listen to original Chavacano songs composed and performed live by local talents in the annual “Original Chavacano Video Music Festival” at 7 p.m. at Centro Latino, Paseo del Mar complex.

At 7 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 8, the much awaited boat race popularly known as “Regatta de Zamboanga” is expected to attract a throng of people from all walks of life on R.T. Lim Boulevard.

At least 240 participants mostly fishers from the different barangays of the city had registered to compete in this traditional race of colorful vinta sails.

Up for grabs are cash prizes—P15,000 for the first place, P12,000 for second, P10,000 for third, P7,000 for fourth and P5,000 for the fifth placer. Non-winners will receive P1,000 each. The “Best Vinta” will also be chosen to receive P3,000 cash.

At 7 p.m. the Mascota competition will have a bevy of Zamboangueña beauties gracing the ramp in their traditional terno (evening gowns) known as Mascota at Paseo del Mar’s Open Stage.-(Vic Larato)
