The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced yesterday that a German expert is expected to arrive this week to install the rubberized track oval in line with of the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

Engr. Shadimar D. Jalaidi, DPWH- 9 project engineer, said in an interview that the installation will be done by the Germans with the assistance of the contractor under the supervision of the DPWH.

He explained that the rubber arrived last September 27 while the artificial grass for the soccer field will follow. The rubber and the artificial grass cover 45 to 50 percent of the project inside the sports complex. It will take two months to install the rubber and grass and the weather must be sunny before the materials can be installed.

According to Jalaidi, the sports complex is now 47 percent completed and they are hoping to finish the rehabilitation of the sports complex by the end of 2017.

DPWH is the lead agency who oversees the repair and rehabilitation of the sports complex. The contractors started the repair and rehabilitation last March 22, 2016.

The contract cost for the rehabilitation and repair of the sports complex is  PhP187,065,353.12 and the contractor is supposed to have 276 calendar days to finish the project. Winning contractors for the project are R.U. Aquino Construction and Development Corporation and RCDG Construction Corporation.

To recall, the grandstand was damaged after more than 100,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) were housed at the area during the September 2013 Zamboanga Siege. (R.G. A A. Go)
