Beltran awaits RIAS report on death of man in police custody Print

Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran is awaiting the official report of the fact-finding team of the police regional office which is conducting a separate investigation on the case of Eduardo N Serino who died while in police custody of the Police Station 11.

The death of Serenio has sparked controversy in the social media after netizens criticized the local police for the untimely death of Serenio while in the custody of police officers.

Serenio is from Lintangan, Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte and was here in the city for a visit when he was arrested for unruly behavior and also for allegedly attacking the arresting officers at R.T. Lim Boulevard. He went amok while under the custody of Zamboanga City Police Station 11 last September 30.

Beltran is awaiting the official report of the said investigation from Atty. Russel L Ebillo, acting regional director of the Police Regional Internal Affairs Service 9( RIAS-9)

The RIAS-9 has already conducted the probe by interviewing the police officers at the Station 11 regarding the controversial death of Serenio while at their custody. They will evaluate their investigation based on interview and testimonies before they will come up with an official report and recommendation that will be submitted to the police regional director.

Chief Supt. Beltran assures the public of the impartiality of the investigation and vowed that justice will be served.

To recall, Serino reportedly died after he banged his head on the concrete wall at the Police Station 11 last Saturday after his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Sibuco Municipal Police Station was ordered by the PRO-9 to locate the bereaved family of Sereno and also provide immediate assistance.

The PRO9 also promised to extend necessary assistance to the bereaved family.– (Dan Toribio)
