Celso enjoins Zamboangueños to stay united this Fiesta Pilar Print

District I Congressman Celso Lobregat called on local residents to be united and be one in prayer and veneration to miraculous Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar during her feast day today.

Zamboanga City celebrates Fiesta Pilar today with the grand procession and Pontifical Mass at 3’ o-clock in the afternoon which is expected to be attended by people from all walks of life who are honoring the city’s patron saint. He likewise recognized the Zamboangueños’ unceasing consecration and faith to the Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar.

“I am wishing all Zamboangueños Happy Fiesta Pilar, may our patron saint continue to protect and guide our city, and since today is her feast day, let us all be one in our strong faith and devotion to her, honoring and thanking her for her goodness,” Lobregat said.

Every  October 12 , Zamboanga City honors its patron saint in the shrine which is known as the Real Fuerza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza in Spanish, the Shrine is a 17th century military fortress built by the Spanish colonial government. Its establishment in 1635 is said to be the founding day of the Chavacano language.

Declared a special non-working holiday pursuant to Republic Act 7350, which allows the Zamboangueños to fittingly celebrate the feast day of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar (Lady of the Pillar).

R.A. 7350, otherwise known as “An Act declaring October 12 of every year a special non-working holiday in the City of Zamboanga, was approved on April 2, 1992.

It was authored by the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat during her stint as this city’s lone representative in the House of Congress who is the mother of Congressman Celso Lobregat.

The highlights of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival for this day will be devoted to religious activities which will kick off with a Diana/Holy Rosary at 4a.m. followed by the grand procession and pontifical mass around 3pm this afternoon. – Dexter Yap
