Gunmen killed a bride’s patriarch and hurt a groom badly in an attack after a traditional Moro wedding rite on Thursday in Cotabato City.

The shooting frenzy sent guests and the Imam who solemnized the couple’s marriage running for their lives.

Responding investigators from the Cotabato City police office said the suspects, armed with 9 millimeter pistols, attacked brazenly the 52-year-old Hadji Nasif Sampiano while emerging from the Islamic worship site at Al-Nor Commercial Complex in Cotabato City, killing him on the spot.

Sampiano’s daughter married Abil Gampong Balindong, 35, in a Muslim rite prior to the incident.

Balindong, who was wounded in the attack, was rushed to the nearby Cotabato Regional Medical Center.

Probers said the suspects casually approached Sampiano and opened fire.

The gunmen managed to escape even before security guards posted at commercial establishments around could react and get close to the crime scene. (John Felix Unson)
