Injured whale shark rescued by residents in Taluksangay Print

A 7-foot long whale shark, which was found out to be severely injured, was recovered along the shoreline of Taluksangay last Wednesday morning.

Culianan Police Station commander Chief Insp. Hazel Fernandez disclosed that shark was found around 9 a.m. by fishermen and residents along the coast area of Taluksangay.

Authorities and barangay officials who immediately went to the area noticed that the large shark has a big injury in the head which needs immediate medical attention.

Residents said that they spotted the shark swimming directly towards the shoreline as if it was asking for help  from the residents because of its injury in the head.

Chief Insp. Fernandez said that they immediately coordinated with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for proper disposition of the whale shark. – Dan Toribio
