Mayor Beng Climaco has issued Executive Order No. BC 298-2017, extending the earlier experimental traffic rerouting scheme, this time with modifications as recommended by the Zamboanga City Traffic Operations Management (ZCTOM) Committee.

Climaco approved the extension following recommendations by acting city police director Sr. Supt. Neri Vincent Ignacio per letter dated Sept. 18, 2017 to decongest traffic in strategic areas.

This, after thee earlier executive order directing the traffic rerouting scheme had expired last Sept. 30.

Under the extended rerouting scheme, “No Entry” or “One-Way” streets are declared from Petron going to BFP, WMSU to Shell, McDonads Suterville to Baliwasan Barangay Hall, InterCo to McDonalds Suterville, Baliwasan Chico to InterCo, San Jose Flower Shop to Ho Sin Bldg (Sulpicio), Budgetwise to Imperial Hotel, City Inn Hotel to Angking Francisco Dress Shop. At least 12 more roads are declared one-way.

The “No Right Turns” are also regulated on 25 streets to include Johnston Street, Baliwasan Grande, La Purisima, Saavedra Street, Calixto Street, Varela Street, Alejo Alvarez Street, Baliwasan Chico, R.T. Lim Boulevard, Villalobos St.

“No Left Turns” are also declared on 20 streets, including Gov. Camins Ave., Sta. Cruz Market, Camanchile St., Nuñez St., Murga Road, Clared Road, Sevilla St.

The order shall take effect upon concurrence by the Sangguniang Panlungsod and will run for a period of six months.

As this developed, the Sangguniang Panlungsod has adopted a resolution (1357) during its Oct. 3, 2017 regular session, expressing its concurrence in the issuance of EO BC298-2017.-(Vic Larato)
