Abu Sayyaf member facing kidnapping charges arrested by gov’t forces in Paseo Print

Operatives of the combined units of the police and the military arrested an alleged member of the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) inside Paseo del Mar last Thursday afternoon.

The Police Regional Office 9 identified the suspect as Hussin T. Iril, alias Ibba Gani.

Iril was arrested based on the warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention in connection with the Golden Harvest kidnapping that was perpetrated by the Abu Sayyaf extremists in Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan on June 11, 2001.

Judge Leo Jay Principe of the Regional Trial Court  (RTC) Branch 1 of Isabela City issued the warrant of arrest for Iril.  warrant for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with case number 3551-400  penalized under article 267 of the revised penal code as amended by section 8 of the Republic Act 7659 in connection to the Golden Harvest kidnapping in Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan last June 11, 2001.

The suspect, who has been on the watch list of the police and military intelligence units for several years, was nabbed by the operatives from the Zamboanga City Police Office, Central Police Station (Police Station 11), Regional Intelligence Division 9, Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, Regional Public Safety Battalion 9 and Joint Task Force Zamboanga.

Iril did not resists arrest when police and military authorities presented to him his arrest warrant while he was inside the Paseo Del Mar. He was immediately brought to the City Police Office.

Iril is now detained at the Zamboanga City Police Office detention cell pending the formal hearing of his case of kidnapping and serious illegal detention in court. –

Meanwhile, the families and neighbors of Iril claimed that the latter is not a member of the extremist group adding that he is just an ordinary man.

They said that the detained suspect is just an operator of a small store in their neighborhood at Barangay Pasobolong. (Dan Toribio)
