Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana disclosed the other day that once the Marawi City crisis will be over, the national government will conduct an investigation regarding the intelligence report that some elected public officials from the provincial, city down to the barangay level are reportedly in cahoots with the terrorist groups of Maute and Hapilon.

Lorenzana explained that it is impossible that local officials do not know the presence of the Maute terrorists and their allies for the long time period of time before the start of the siege.

The defense secretary said that before the day one of the crisis intelligence reports indicated the different activities of the Maute such as conducting meetings and ocular inspection on the different vital and strategic areas of the city particularly the city’s entrance and exit but were not reported by the provincial and local officials to the police and military authroties.

”Pagkatapos ng crisis sa Marawi City and once cleared na ang area part po sa process itong investigation sa mga local na opisyales kung bakit nangyari ito”,  Sec. Lorenzana stressed during an interview with local reporters.

He added that the investigation will be conducted extensively so that those officials who may have given help and assistance to the Maute terrorists shall be held accountable.

Meanwhile, Lorenzana also said that he can not give a timetable as to when will be the end of the Marawi City crisis.

He said that he is giving the AFP especially the commanders on the ground no deadline .

“The paramount concern of the military is the safe rescue of the remaining hostages,” Lorenzana said.

The defense secretary added: “Hindi ko pa masasabi kong kailan ito matatapos dahil palagi nalang ako nasusunog sa news when I said three days it will end or in a week. Mahirap po kasi kay baka may nagtatago pa na mga hostages. Kaya kong ang mga sundalo may makikita na hostages o naka tunog sa tropa na nandiyan sila. Pinapahubad namin bago sumurender o ma -rescue sila ng damit pangtaas at baba baka may sinabitan ng  bomba sa katawan ng terorista.” Allen Abastillas
