Barangay San Roque yesterday opened its search for the cleanest and greenest purok in their community starting this mid- October, aims to promote a clean and grean barangay.

“If we can implement this in the community, this has greater benefits than the prizes or money. The benefits of a clean and green community is that the barangay will be free from sickness, waste will be lesser, and these trash can be turned into money,” Joselito Macrohon, San Roque barangay chairman, said in an interview.

According to Macrohon, there are 47 puroks in barangay San Roque which will be competing against each other.

The judges will check if these puroks are practicing waste segregation, if they have Material Recovery Facility, if they have separate containers for biodegradable and non- biodegradable, if they have plants, backyard garden, and trees.

There are two categories for the competition in the purok category and for the 4P’s category. Winners will receive for the purok category P10,000 for first prize, P7,000 for the second prize, P5,000 for the third prize, for the fourth prize P3,000 and fifth prize P1,500. For the 4P’s category, winners will receive P8,000 for first prize, P5,000 for the second prize, third prize P3,000, fourth prize P2,000, and fifth prize P1,000.           Currently constant validation is being done by the judges both for the barangay and national search and the awarding will be done next year.
