The death toll from heavy rains and strong gusts of wind that battered Zamboanga city since the early part of this week has reached 5.

The death toll rose from 3 to 5 yesterday after a couple was killed after being pinned down by a giant tree which collapsed on top of their house in Sinunuc.

The number of deaths were recorded at the start of heavy rains last Sunday, which brought about flashfloods in the east coast and storm surge incidents in the west coast of Zamboanga.

Last Sunday, a senior citizen, 70-year old Sonny Dajari drowned during a storm surge in Labuan.

A 6-year old girl, Sifhitri Indanan y Merisani, was electrocuted in Sinunuc after steppng on a live wire that afternoon.

Last Monday, a 9-year old boy, Erson Ermon y Fabian, drowned while crossing the river in Sibulao.

Ermon’s companion, 40-year old Antonio Cellado remains missing as of presstime.  (Liza Jocson)
