A cousin of Basilan terror leader Isnilon Hapilon and two other members of the Abu Sayyaf group surrendered to authorities at a military camp in Basilan last Tuesday.

Lt. Col Jonas Templo, 74th Infantry Battalion Commander identified the surrenderer as Ben Salim Sapilin aka Ben Bilog, 52 years old; Rami Ben Sapilin aka Attik, 23; and Mohammad Endeng aka Aburayhan.

Templo identified Sapilin as a cousin of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, earlier killed during a government-led assault in Marawi.

The three surrendered with firearms consisting of an M16 rifle, an M79 Grenade Launcher and an M1 Garand.

“Sapilin and his two relatives are currently undergoing custodial debriefing facilitated by our intelligence operatives,” Templo said.

Lt Gen Carlito Galvez Jr, Western Mindanao Commander, said that there have been 123 Abu Sayyaf members who surrendered since January this year.(Ely Dumaboc)
