Depressed man commits suicide by exploding a grenade on himself PDF Print E-mail

A 64 year-old man who was reportedly suffering from depression committed suicide by exploding a fragmentation grenade in Purok 1, San Vicente, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay last Tuesday night.

Report from Police Regional Office 9 identified the fatality as Placido Ituralde Francisco, married and a farmer.

Initial investigation showed that the grenade explosion was heard by some neighbors around 9 p.m. but the incident was only reported to the police around 12 noon of the following day by Gilbert Ituralde, a relative of the victim.

During ocular investigation conducted by responding policemen, they found the victim lying on the ground with his left arm amputated and his entire bloodied due to shrapnel wounds.

Police said that Francisco had been staying alone in his house for more than two months after his wife left him and stayed with their daughter in Lower Tungawan.

Neighbors told the police that Francisco kept on threatening to commit suicide whenever he is drunk.

Police recovered tiny shrapnel, safety lever, safety pin, safety ring and safety clip of the hand grenade at the scene.
