Operatives of the Highway Patrol Group-9 (HPG-9) have recovered a carnapped 2016 Toyota Hiace Grandia yesterday  and arrested the three suspected carnappers in Barangay Recodo.

The identities of the suspects however were temporary withheld as the police are still conducting deeper probe as they believed that they might be involved in big time carnapping incident operating in the entire country.

Sr. Supt. Dimaano disclosed that based on their initial investigation the Toyota Hiace was rented from October 18 - 22, 2017 by a certain Asuncion Eustoguey at Cobelam Transport Service Corp. in Baguio City. The transport service company is owned by Atty. Materno R. Luspian, mayor of the Municipality of Mankayan, Mt. Province.

After the end of the contract on Oct. 22, Eustoguey did not return the vehicle . Company representative Cristopher Luspian reported to the Baguio police that their unit was possibly carnapped since it was no longer returned by the Eustoguey and the latter's whereabouts could not also be located.

The global positioning system showed that the vehicle was already brought to Iloilo province.

HPG Task Force Limbas immediately alerted all its units in the Visayas and Mindanao and traced the van to Iligan city the following day.

According to Dimaano, as of the moment he can not divulge the name of the person who was in possession of the unit since it might jeopardize the ongoing investigation and operations.

Meanwhile,  Dimaano said that their office is set to turn over the vehicle to its rightful owner after the completion of macro-etching examination. -- Allen Abastillas
