A total of 338 residents of eleven barangays in Lamitan city have submitted themselves to a drug test in line with the possible declaration of these barangays as drug-free villages.

The drug test was conducted last Wednesday under the supervision of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Basilan province.

The individuals are residents of the following barangays:  Tumakid, Maloong,Canal, Baas, Baungus Ulame, Bohe Sapa, Malinis, Balobo, Bulingan, Kulaybato and Limook.

A few months ago, the PDEA declared the barangays of Malakas, Luuk Sumbang and Arco as drug-free.

Honeylet Uy, Local Government Executive Officer, said that the 338 residents are former surrenderers who have already given themselves up to the police under the Tokhang operation.

This is the second time that the surrenderers will undergo a drug test.

Meanwhile, Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay hosted the 4th batch of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team Training and Refresher Course held at Datu Dizal last Wednesday.

The speakers include Lamitan City Police Chief Inspector Roel C. Gasoh,, Police officers SPO4 Vincent Saldariega and SPO4 Leandro Bayhon, Human Rights Officer Brendo Morales, representatives from the Philippine Red Cross, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection.
